It's the Time, of the Season... To be Bought off

Well folks. The time has come once again when the federal government has decided to bribe Canadians with Alberta's money. Thats right, I am speaking of rebates to defray energy costs for heating this winter.

As we all know, there is a half assed rebate program in Alberta that goes directly to Enmax, Trans-Alta or Direct Energy if the price of gas creeps above a certain amount during the period between November and March. This sort levels out the price shocks that the AEUB seems unable to say no to. This type of system while crappy is not really what pissed me off.

No. What pisses me off is that the federal government suddenly takes notice and says. oh boy there is an election coming.. we need top of mind, pocket book issues to hitch oursleves to. It wont be far behind for them to say " we are with you.. Canadians (read Ontarians), we think gas and energy costs are too high. But that damn Fat Alberta doesn't want to be any lower so until we can make them see reason here is $500 bones to remind you of who your friend is. Remember to vote Liberal in the upcoming election and we wont bother you again for Four years. Unless those scary Rednecks want to change the Charter or the Senate"

Yeah it is indeed the time.......

Thank you All

I would like to thank all of you that have visited thus far. I will do my best to uphold the high??? standards of j Franklin. As he mentioned, we used to go to college and University together. During university we wrote a weekly article in the student news paper. Perhaps this will turn into a similar thing. The difference is that we used to take an issue and I would take one side and he would take the other. Now however, I find that there is very little the J says that I do not agree with. There are few people who know as much about the roots of western alientation and federalism in the Canadian context, as J Franklin.

I only hope that I can add intelligently to the debate.

As I used to say to end my articles
"If it is true that we only go around once, we might as well go around with NoNeck"

The feds are coming

I work for the Alberta Provincial Govt. In intergovernmental relations I might add. I see everyday how badly the idea watertight compartments for constitutional powers is preverted. They are somewhat like the compartments in the titianic... they do not go right to the ceiling. They are, a lot like 6 mil poly in that they bulge and wrinkle everywhere. The feds are coming for us, just as they always have been. The difference is that they once again have enough eastern heads and backs to stand on to scramble over the wall into our compartment.
